AJMAN UNIVERSITY TO SPONSOR EDUCATION’S “OSCARS”
Founded in 1988 as the first private institution of higher education in the United Arab Emirates and the Gulf region, Ajman University (AU) is now being recognized as an emerging leader on the global academic map.
The 2020 QS World University Rankings lists AU among the top 800 universities globally, and among the top 10 worldwide for the proportion of its international students and faculty! QS also names AU as one of the top 150 young universities in the world, according to the latest edition of the QS Top 50 Under 50 Ranking. Recently, Ajman University earned Five QS Stars in three separate categories – Social Responsibility, Inclusiveness and Learning Environment.
Whether researching on campus or volunteering in the community, AU students and faculty – from 35 and 72 countries, respectively – demonstrate a great passion for innovation and deep compassion for society.
The College of Dentistry proudly assists more than 500 people every day in a free dental clinic on campus. With the recent addition of an AU mobile dental unit, they are now traversing the UAE to serve vulnerable populations who lack transportation. Visit the social responsibility webpage at AU to learn more.
During spring break in March 2019, a total of 30 AU students traveled to Zanzibar on a mission to serve some of the island nation’s most vulnerable children. Known as the “Zanzibar 30,” the all-expenses-paid initiative also served to commemorate AU’s 30thanniversary.
In 2018, three faculty from AU took top honors in the Regional Awards category at the 2018 QS Reimagine Education Awards for their project, “Sense7,” an A.I.-based solution that enables the visually impaired to participate in mainstream education and develop vocational skills. Sense7 also emerged from the recent A.I. Grand Challenge in Dubai with the “People’s Choice Award” in the category of Artificial Intelligence for Social Good.
AU has graduated more than 37,000 students who hail from 104 nations. Working in a variety of professions, AU alumni now comprise 14 alumni chapters around the globe.
